2022 LUCHT EN WATER, CLOUD & SEA
Het begon rond de zomer van 2022, met mijn wens om deze vluchtige grondstoffen van het leven te ‘pakken’, in een tijd waarin ze zowel schaars als (te) overvloedig worden. Eigen of andermans reizen, nieuwsberichten, film, tv, boeken: overal is schijnbaar toevallige aanleiding gevonden. De sfeer van de werken varieer. Kalm of ruig: dag, nacht, vuil, ramp, storm, stil. Reflecties op alle mogelijke manieren. De mens zelf is nergens zichtbaar, vaak wel voelbaar aanwezig. Gaandeweg is het werk aangegroeid tot een doorwaadbare zee van dubbelzijdige kleine ruimtelijke werken met 2 grote wandschilderijen op de achtergrond.
AANVULLING ‘HOLLANDSE MEESTERS’ 2025
De expositie van de serie in NIO House aan de Meent Rotterdam 02.05-31.08 2025 was een mooie aanleiding om mijn bestaande serie aan te vullen, en om dit thema te herbezien vanuit de geschiedenis. Ik dook samen met conservator Irene Jacobs het depot van het Maritiem Museum Rotterdam in. Lucht en zee vormen het decor voor deze enorme ‘scheepsportretten’. Van de Maritieme Meesters uit 17e-20e eeuw selecteerde ik 10 werken. Ik gaf lucht en zee nu de hoofdrol, en gebruikte kleurgebruik, materiaalgebruik en de techniek van deze meesters als aanleiding voor mijn eigen miniwerken.
